Anastasia Northrop on "Why Are We Still Single (or Single Again)" ? Yes, it's Catholic Match--(I object to their adverts)--but Anastasia is a good cookie.

She is much gentler than I. For example, she doesn't stand on top of a 17th century house yelling, "Half of you Single men are spiritually DEAD!"

  1. Interesting!! Although, it's kind of ironic for Catholic Match to publish an article that talks about the illusion of having infinite choices being a reason people might not get married. :)

Also, now I'm curious to know if the marriage rate is higher or lower among practicing Catholics?

    1. Ha ha! You should see Trad Match (or whatever it is called.) You have your pick of 50 men or so.

Compared to whom? Practising Catholics aged 27 are probably more likely to be married (or engaged) than non-practising Catholics aged 27 because by definition practising Catholics don't shack up--or, if they are stuck in sin but trying to get out, know shacking up is seriously wrong. However, I would not be at all surprised to find out that evangelical Christians marry sooner and more.

    2. Lol! I was on Ave Maria at one point, years ago, and I feel like the numbers must be fairly similar. :)

And hmm. Good question. I'll have to think about that more.

  2. It's Latin-mass-dating, I believe. I first heard about it on an American man's blog post. And I've heard tell since that it's mostly European's on it, and not many Canadians or Americans. Although it is free, so I'm not sure why more millennials aren't on top of that. That could be because less traddies want to do online dating?

    1. Possibly they don't know it exists. Which gives me a good idea for a post!

  3. I think they are quite good Catholic men that are plagued by the seemingly infinite number of choices. At least, the ones I know who are still single (and a few recently married), that seems to be the reason, rather than a dead soul or a wariness about women. I am sure there are those too, and might know some of each- but Choice seems to be a bigger issue with the good, single, Catholic men I know (and if that's my sample, that excludes the dead souls!). For at least one, there is also an extreme introversion that also makes things difficult.

  4. Extreme introversion! Yes. I actually find many men who gear towards the trad style are rather introverted.

    1. That makes a lot of sense, as there's no hey-fellow-well-met spirit to the EF. No handshake of peace--a gesture that strikes me increasingly as bizarre, especially in the English-speaking world, and as breaking one's concentration. "Peace be with you." "How do you do?" The Sign of Peace in the TM--limited to priests--is not a handshake!
